Head of Consumer Banking

The Head of Consumer Banking (which includes Retail, SME & Private Banking) is responsible for leading, managing and growing the Bank's Consumer network with established goals and implementation of strategies to achieve growth, profit and operational efficiency. This role leads and directs all consumer-banking functions, develop branch financials, service delivery, performance goals with defined objectives and monitor results.

Main duties



  • Develop and lead the implementation of the Consumer banking strategy in line with the overall Banking Strategy; to ensure achievement of profitability targets through revenue maximization and prudent cost management.
  • Drive sustainable growth and acquisition of new customers of consumer banking through the creation, development and maintenance of high-quality advisory relationships.
  • Set strategy, drive business performance, assist in the monitoring, analysis and reporting of both strategic objectives and business development projects in progress.
  • Oversee and maintain productive and strategic relations with customers / suppliers / line manager / stakeholders to drive the development and delivery of business solutions and revenue growth for retail, SME and private banking.
  • Preparation of the annual strategy, setting the Consumer Banking targets & objectives, business performance metrics and productivity ratios.
  • Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
  • Drive Consumer banking statistics analysis, preparation & presentation of performance; identification of business opportunities including the implementation of key objectives.
  • Liaise, coordinate and attend meetings, forum and strategic discussion with all Stakeholders of the SME echo system of the Mauritian Market, including Ministries of the Government.
  • Ensure preparation & presentation of performance of all businesses ie retail, SME and Private banking with statistics analysis per sector/ portfolio & client analysis, and the identification of SME business opportunities including the implementation of key objectives.
  • Ensure to achieve operational/Financial targets set as per the budget in line with bank’s strategy for all functions consumer banking including SME (<10Mn).
  • Achieve the set financial targets on monthly basis and monitor the sales performance on a month to month.
  • Monitor segment performance against stated targets, and take accountability of financial performance and the P&L of the consumer banking.
  • Responsible for supervising the Area leaders to achieve operational targets by providing business plans, and monitoring the performance of the sales team to ensure the specific portfolios of business performances are met.
  • To actively participate in decision making for the business center and act as a liaison between senior management and branch.
  • To evaluate all activities and working practices of the business centers in order to maximize profits making recommendations for change as required.
  • To drive customer-led propositions for the Consumer Banking Segment by developing a pipeline of value adding customer solutions to include customer experience, products, and service offers.
  • Manage an effective customer’s loyalty program for networking and deepening of MauBank market penetration.
  • Ensure strong cross- selling of existing and new products to existing and new clients; and in this process, maintain effective liaison with all relevant business units in the Bank.
  • Work in conjunction with Risk and other relevant business units of the Bank, to set and monitor consumer banking portfolio, risk exposures and client strategy; and to improve the Credit risk policies of consumer banking, to ensure healthy portfolio growth.
  • Lead, motivate, and continuously develop a credible high performing SME team.
  • To ensure all KYC and Money Laundering requirements are being followed. 
  • To ensure all banking policies and procedures are adhered at all times, by self and team mates.


Prerequisites



  • Minimum Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Banking, Economics or other related disciplines acceptable to the Bank.
  • A Master in Business Administration will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years of working experience in credit, with exposure to Consumer banking / Commercial Sales / Corporate Banking/ SME Banking.
  • Excellent knowledge of Consumer banking products and services, and related Banking products,
  • Proven experience in leading, managing, and inspiring a team of professionals, preferably in banking or financial institutions, at Management Level.
  • Detailed working knowledge and understanding (including business drivers) of product-level P&L, economic revenue, risk-weighted assets under Basel framework.
  • Strong business acumen, with good knowledge of risk, product and operational activities and processes.
