Mauritius–East Africa: Building a Stronger Financial Corridor

Mauritius–East Africa: Building a Stronger Financial Corridor

Mirella Gustave, Relationship Manager – International Banking at MauBank, contributes to the latest edition of FinWise Exchange, examining the evolving Mauritius–East Africa corridor and the factors that will shape its long-term competitiveness.

East Africa is becoming an increasingly important part of the continent’s investment landscape. Against this backdrop, Mauritius has an opportunity to further strengthen its role as a financial platform between international investors and African markets.

In her article, “Mauritius–East Africa Corridor: From Maritime Crossroads to Financial Gateway,” Mirella Gustave looks beyond geography to examine the practical foundations on which that role depends.

Her analysis considers the ability to reduce friction in cross-border capital flows, navigate regulatory complexity and strengthen the payment and correspondent banking connectivity required to support investment across multiple jurisdictions. It also examines how Mauritius’ established structuring capabilities, network of agreements and position as an International Financial Centre can contribute to facilitating investment into East Africa.
